It’s Friday, which means it is time for another edition This Week in Marketing on the Bluewater Blog! This Week in Marketing, we’ll look at the latest from Apple, one company’s Valentine’s Day social media disaster and check out Facebook’s new product ads!
Product Ads Now Available on Facebook
There’s a new type of Facebook ad available – product ads! Businesses can now upload product catalogs to have Facebook create ads for them. Facebook will target ads towards specific users, which will be a handy tool to highlight popular products.
Another convenient feature of these new ads is that when certain products are out of stock, Facebook will automatically stop showing those specific product ads. Right now, Target and Shutterfly are the first to try out these new product ads.
1-800-Flowers’ Social Media Disaster (Round 2)
Valentine’s Day was last week and I’m sure many of you bought or received some gorgeous blooms. That is, unless you ordered from 1-800-Flowers. The online floral retailer is dealing with a social media disaster after the big “day of love,” when hundreds of unhappy customers took to Facebook and Twitter to show the difference between the flowers on 1-800-Flowers’ website – and what was actually delivered to them. Sound familiar? This also happened last year and is continuing to damage the brand. Check out this example below:
Apple’s New CarPlay and….iCar?
The internet has been buzzing about a top secret project Apple has been working on – an iCar! The Wall Street Journal reported that there are hundreds of Apple employees working on a brand new, automated electric car. There have even been sightings of a rumored prototype in San Francisco. Apple hasn’t commented, but they did just release Apple CarPlay, a new system that lets you plug your phone into your car’s built-in display. It lets you get directions, make calls, send and receive messages and listen to music. Not bad, Apple! I don’t know about you but I’m definitely looking forward to whatever they come out with next…how awesome would it be if it was a car that drove on it’s own?!
That’s all for This Week in Marketing! Did you get any problem blooms on Valentine’s Day? Would you buy Apple’s iCar? Let us know in the comments section below, or tweet me @BluewaterIntern!
